TVabsat - The Roll-out Programme

Content Aggregation

Multi-genre Content Aggregation has been in train for some time now with both International Broadcasters and Special Interest Channels. The promoters will continue to add Channels as the project progresses to ensure a really comprehensive bouquet of great programming. The Content has all been sourced on a Rights-cleared basis making it possible for DTT Operators to use all or any of its channels in assembling their own schedules. TVabsat will also assist Operators wanting to negotiate with Channel Owners should they wish to add-in commercials prior to retransmission.

Going Live in Africa

DTT Operators will be able to reuse the majority of their existing infrastructure in terms of buildings, masts and utility provision when remodelling their technical installation ready for Digital Transmission. The TVabsat project has been set up in a manner that supports those endeavours in the most affordable and straightforward way. Operators will receive the TVabsat Ku Band signal with only a small dish.

Operators will be able to implement a phased switch over plan making it possible to use their skilled technical personnel on a rolling installation programme moving from one region to another as the plan rolls out. The financial implications of phasing are also staggered subject to the number of set-top boxes needed for each phase and the number of masts needing to be networked to the main transmission centre. Adsat International, one of the largest suppliers of set-top boxes with 20 years' experience of satellite TV installations in Africa, will be ready to assist DTT Operators on the ground.

TVabsat will liaise with Operators to ensure that the new Digital Transmission can be simulcast for a lead in period prior to their phased switch off of the Analogue signal. Operators will be helped to develop customer information and awareness programming for Analogue Transmission during the simulcast period. Again this programming can be used on a temporary basis to support the phasing plan.
